Speech therapy
Together towards communication that works better.
At Puheapaja we work out together what makes communication difficult and build ways that work in your everyday life.
Therapy where everyday life happens
Puheapaja offers speech therapy to clients of all ages. My experience is greatest in rehabilitating speech, language and interaction difficulties in children and young people. Specific language impairment, autism rehabilitation, unclear speech and hearing rehabilitation are familiar ground. Eating difficulties are also part of speech therapy, and I am especially interested in neurological rehabilitation of adults.
In familiar environments
Therapy takes place in the client's own surroundings: at home, in daycare or at school. Skills learned in a familiar setting transfer most naturally into everyday life.
Participation in everyday life
Goals are always set together with the client, the family and the people around them. Individual goals that everyone is committed to best support the client taking part in different everyday situations.
AAC – when speech alone isn't enough
Ways of communicating that support or replace speech, such as pictures, supporting signs and signed speech, are part of my daily work. Strong AAC skills mean that a communication method that works can be found for the client even when speech alone is not enough or does not develop as expected.
Guiding the people around the client in AAC methods is an essential part of rehabilitation. The best results come when the methods are also used between therapy visits.

Speech therapy can help, for example, when:
- a child's speech is not developing at the expected age level or is hard to understand
- a child has difficulty understanding instructions or telling about things
- a child does not use speech or communication is otherwise challenging
- you suspect your child is on the autism spectrum or a developmental language disorder has been diagnosed

If you are unsure, it is still worth getting in touch. I'm happy to tell you more and we can assess together whether speech therapy could help.
Remote therapy
Remote therapy is possible when visits in person are not possible for some reason. Guidance visits and network meetings can also be held remotely. For a remote connection you need the internet, an email address and a device with a camera and microphone.
Service languages
Speech therapy is offered in Finnish and Swedish. Guidance for the client's close circle is also possible in English, and an interpreter is arranged if needed.
